Overview

What it is
ElevenLabs is an AI audio platform known for realistic text-to-speech. Beyond reading text aloud, it offers voice cloning, voice design, dubbing into other languages, speech-to-text, sound effects and music generation, through both a web app and a developer API. Creators use it for narration, audiobooks and video voiceovers; businesses use it for voice agents and localisation.
Key features
According to ElevenLabs' official pricing page (October 2026):
- Text to speech in many voices and languages, including the latest Eleven v4 model.
- Speech to text transcription.
- Instant Voice Cloning from Starter and Professional Voice Cloning from Creator.
- Dubbing Studio for translating video and audio while keeping the speaker's voice.
- Voice design, sound effects and music generation.
- Studio projects for long-form audio such as audiobooks.
- API access, with high-quality 44.1 kHz PCM audio output on Pro and above.
Practical tips before you commit
- Test your actual script in the free plan, including names, numbers and any non-English terms, because pronunciation is where synthetic voices most often slip.
- For Arabic or other languages, listen for dialect and accent fit with your audience before producing at scale.
- Check the licence terms for your use case (YouTube monetisation, client work, audiobooks) on the official site.
- Keep written permission from anyone whose voice you clone.

How credits are used
All ElevenLabs products draw from one shared monthly credit pool. The pricing page gives approximate costs: text to speech at about 1 credit per character, speech to text at 330 credits per minute, music at 900 credits per minute, sound effects at 200 credits per generation, and dubbing from 2,000 to 10,000 credits per minute depending on mode and whether a watermark is applied. On the Starter plan's 30,000 credits, that is roughly 30,000 characters of speech, or about 90 minutes of transcription. Studio project limits also rise by plan (3 on Free, 20 on Starter).
At the time of writing, ElevenLabs was offering first-month discounts on Starter and Creator, ending 18 October. Prices exclude taxes. Credits are used across features, so different actions use up your allowance at different rates. Check the official site for current rates.
