Lucida AI is a language learning app built around one principle: speaking a language out loud, again and again. You have real spoken conversations with Lucy, an AI tutor, and get feedback as you speak. The app teaches English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Arabic, and feedback is given in your own native language. Lucida says it has more than 33 million downloads and a 4.8 rating on the App Store, where it lists an App of the Year award.

AI tutors

Lucida Tutors act as a dedicated language teacher that is always available. They adapt to your learning style and preferences, and the app builds a custom learning plan around a personal relationship with your tutor. The aim is to make speaking feel effortless, with less pressure than a live class.

Feedback

As you speak, Lucida gives live feedback on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pace and filler words.

Scenarios

Lucida is free to download on iPhone and Android. Some features require a subscription, and the app shows which features need a plan and what they cost before you pay. Prices are set by country and by app store and shown in your own currency, so the amount that applies to you is the one on the in-app plan screen, along with the billing period and the fact that it renews until you cancel. The company suggests downloading it, speaking once and deciding from that.
