Overview

Gerty is a private AI assistant that runs directly on an Apple silicon Mac. It uses open language models stored locally, so nothing you say, type or file leaves your machine. The software is offered as a one‑time purchase of CHF 49 and includes a seven‑day free trial.
When you start Gerty, the app scans your hardware to decide which models can run efficiently on your CPU and GPU. It then downloads those models once, keeping them on your disk. You can chat, voice‑control, read and write documents, search your Mail and Calendar, and even interact with images, all without an internet connection unless you choose to enable web search or update checks. The interface includes a searchable chat history and the ability to prompt the assistant to write code or generate summaries, with options for multiple Mac licences (up to three devices per purchase). The assistant listens through the Mac's notch and replies aloud, using the same local models.
Gerty distinguishes itself from model‑runner tools such as Ollama or LM Studio by offering a ready‑made assistant experience. The app not only downloads suitable models but also provides the context from your files and apps, enabling tasks like summarising a board deck or planning a trip. It requires no user‑supplied configuration and respects privacy by never uploading data to third‑party servers. It works on macOS 26 or newer, and the more memory your Mac has, the larger the model that can be run.
