Overview

Backflip is an AI tool for mechanical and product design. It generates parametric 3D models from your input, and those models come with full feature trees, so they can be opened and edited in your usual CAD package rather than arriving as fixed meshes. The company's goal is to lower CAD's steep learning curve and make 3D design accessible to more people, while still producing precise results that engineers can work with.
How it differs
Many AI 3D generators produce meshes, which are fine for visual assets but hard to modify for manufacturing. Backflip describes itself as an AI copilot that models parts the way a human CAD user would, building logical, dimension-driven features. Because the output keeps its feature history, you can adjust sketches, extrusions and other operations later, which matters when a part has to fit with others or go through revisions.
Modes
Jobs run in one of two modes. Fast Mode is quicker and cheaper, at 10 credits per job. Thinking Mode costs 50 credits per job, and the FAQ explains that it does more work to produce a result. Users can pick the mode depending on how complex the part is and how much refinement it needs.
Pricing
New accounts get 50 credits to try the tools, with no credit card required. Builder costs $20 a month for 100 credits and is aimed at individual and casual users. Pro costs $50 a month for 300 credits and is aimed at power users and small teams. Business costs $380 a month for 2,500 credits. Enterprise plans are custom. Extra credit packs of the same sizes are sold at the same prices. They are used only after monthly credits run out, and they expire 12 months after purchase. Monthly credits do not roll over.
Things to consider
AI-generated parts should be checked for dimensions, tolerances and manufacturability before production, just like any draft model. Since editing happens in your own CAD software, you'll still need access to a compatible package. Heavy use of Thinking Mode consumes credits quickly, so teams should estimate their usage before choosing a plan.
