Overview

Koi is a single‑app Mac assistant that lets you dictate, control the computer, and ask an AI to perform a range of tasks. It works on macOS 14 or later, supports both Apple Silicon and Intel processors, and offers a free 3‑day trial with no subscription required.
You start Koi by pressing fn + ⌘, which opens a floating chat window. In that window you can type or speak any query, such as “Explain how rain actually works?” or “Draw a 3‑4‑5 triangle.” The AI shows a minimal response and offers quick actions. For hands‑free typing, press fn + ⌥ to activate dictation mode; any words spoken at the moment will be transcribed to the application that is currently focused. The transcription runs offline, ignores background noise, and can handle up to 100 languages; 25 are built‑in and the rest can be downloaded for free. If you need a note to reflect a conversation, you can press fn + ⌃ to record a call. Koi writes the spoken content into text with timestamps, provides a concise summary, and suggests to‑do items or a follow‑up email that you can edit before sending.
File manipulation is available through the “Hold Shift” toolbar. Drag a picture, video, PDF, or document onto the interface, hold Shift, and you see options to compress, convert, crop, trim or merge. For example, you can drag a 2.4 MB PDF, hold Shift, and choose “Convert” to turn it into a JPG or “Compress” to reduce its size. The app also offers annotation tools like adding a background, cropping, redacting or creating a collage.
Koi keeps a small memory of personal preferences, your name, role, and how you like answers, stored locally. You can view or edit this memory at any time. The “Work” view lists recent projects such as a launch plan or study notes and provides a quick search across documents. Calendar integration pulls events from both Google and Apple calendars; you can ask Koi to add an event and it will remind you later without leaving the app.
The assistant tracks feature usage anonymously through a random identifier, giving developers basic analytics while protecting your privacy. The directory listing notes the free trial but does not provide any published pricing or support details beyond the initial 3‑day test period.
