Overview

TribeBills is a bill-splitting app for friends, flatmates and travel groups. It keeps one shared tab for each group so that nobody has to be the person who chases everyone for money. You can scan a receipt with your phone camera, divide the bill fairly, and see at a glance who owes whom. It runs on the web and on iPhone and is free to start.
How it works
You create a group, called a tribe, and share a short code in your group chat. Friends join by typing the code and their name; they do not need to create an account, which removes the usual friction of getting everyone to sign up. Guests can later make a free account and keep the bills they have already seen. Bills are then added either by scanning a receipt or by entering them manually.
Key features
- Smart Scan: point the camera at a receipt and the app reads line items and the total, so you do not have to type a long grocery list.
- Flexible splits: divide a bill equally, by percentage, or manually by amount, with a running remaining balance until the split adds up.
- Balances and nudges: the app shows what you are owed and by whom, with a nudge option to remind people politely.
- Recurring bills: expenses such as electricity can repeat monthly for shared households.
- Settled status: past events are marked as settled so the tab stays tidy.
Use cases
Flatmates can track rent-adjacent costs such as utilities and shared groceries. A group trip can log restaurant bills, fuel and activities as they happen, with each person seeing their share. A dinner with friends can be split item by item from a photographed receipt, so the person who only ordered a drink does not pay for everyone's main course.
Pricing
The site describes TribeBills as free on the web and iPhone, with no sign-up needed for friends to join. There is no paid plan advertised on the homepage at the time of checking.
Who it is for
TribeBills is for anyone who regularly shares costs with the same people and wants an easier alternative to spreadsheets or group-chat arithmetic. Because joining needs only a code and a name, it is especially practical for mixed groups where not everyone wants another app account. It records who owes what; actual payments still happen through whatever method your group already uses, so check that it fits how your friends prefer to settle up.
