Overview

Clipdrop is a set of quick AI image tools that each do one job well. There's no complicated studio: you pick a tool, drop in an image, and download the result. It's owned by Jasper, and its history is a bit unusual. The company behind it, InitML, was founded in 2020, went through Y Combinator, was bought by Stability AI in February 2023 and was then sold to Jasper in February 2024.
The tools
- Remove background: extract the main subject from a photo.
- Cleanup: remove objects, people, text and defects.
- Replace background and Relight: put a subject in a new scene and change the lighting.
- Uncrop: extend a photo to a different format.
- Image upscaler: enlarge 2x or 4x on the main tool page, with noise removal.
- Text remover, Universal resizer for social media sizes, and Text to image.
Clipdrop also offers plugins, including one for Photoshop on desktop, and the Jasper API lets developers add the same image models to their products.
Free vs Pro
Most tools can be used free with daily limits. The official pricing page lists, for example, 20 background removals and 50 text removals per 24 hours on the free plan, with the upscaler at 2x.
Pro costs US$15 per month and raises limits to 1,000 per 24 hours, adds high resolution, upscaling up to 16x and skips the queue. API use is billed by usage. Pricing checked October 2026 at clipdrop.co/pricing.
On commercial use, Clipdrop's FAQ says its terms don't limit your ability to use images generated on the site commercially.
Who it's for
Anyone who regularly needs a clean cutout, a removed object or a resized image, such as online sellers, social media managers and bloggers, without opening Photoshop. It's less suited to generating original artwork.
Pros: fast, focused tools; useful free limits; commercial use allowed.
Cons: high resolution needs Pro; few creative or generation features; the free plan has a queue.
